Performance Test Results
Energy Efficiency
The GoveeLife H7151 drew 603 watts of power in our tests. This is relatively high, even for a 50 pint dehumidifier (the top rated Midea Cube drew only 512 watts of power under the same conditions). On the positive side of things, the H7151 removes moisture fast – faster than most other 50 pint units we’ve tested. This gives this this unit good energy efficiency despite its high power draw.
Noise Output
When it comes to raw noise output, the H7151 was measured at 71.2 dB over its control panel and 63.8 dB 10 ft. away from the dehumidifier. These are both above average results.
That being said, almost all of the noise this dehumidifier produces is fan noise. Its compressor is much quieter than that of most competitors. So while the raw noise output of this unit is high, the quality of the noise is it produces (mostly fan noise) is much more pleasant that of most competitors (which often have compressor buzzing noise audible over fan noise).
Moisture Removal
The H7151 performed very well in our moisture removal tests. In a 50 sq. ft. room it lowered room humidity from 90% RH down to 40% RH in 8 minutes, 41 seconds. The absolute best 50 pint dehumidifiers we’ve tested did so faster – the Midea Cube, for example, did so in 7 minutes, 39 seconds. But the vast majority of 50 pint units we tested took at least minutes to lower room humidity under the same conditions.
Hygrometer Accuracy
This unit’s built-in hygrometer is highly inaccurate. It frequently reads room humidity to be 5 to 7% higher than it actually is.
This didn’t really impact the H7151’s performance in our moisture removal test. For our moisture removal test, we set the dehumidifier to its “continuous” mode so that it actively dehumidifies independent of its reading of the room’s current humidity.
The H7151’s inaccurate hygrometer would only impact performance if you use it on its “manual” mode – if you set a target humidity level on the dehumidifier’s control panel. For example, if you set it to dehumidify to a target humidity of 50% RH, it would cycle off at an actual room humidity of 45 to 43% RH because it reads room humidity to be at least 5 to 7% higher than it actually is.
Included Features, Functionality, Build Quality, Warranties, and Value
Durability (Build Quality)
General Impressions
Many materials and parts used on the H7151 are of a noticeably lower quality than equivalent materials and parts on top rated dehumidifiers we recommend. For example, the top rated Midea Cube has high quality tactile rubber buttons and a very clear high quality LCD display. The H7151’s “touch” buttons and LCD display are of a noticeably lower quality.
Consumer Feedback
So far, this unit has received mostly positive reviews from consumers. We did see some reports of DoA units, and some reports of units failing after extended use, but these reports are few and far between.
That being said, this dehumidifier has only been on the market for about a year. Most dehumidifiers, if they fail, fail after 1 year of use .
Overall Category Score
Overall, we give the H7151 a 4/5 for durability.
Adjustability
This unit features three fan speeds, a continuous mode, and an automatic mode. Some competitors only have two fan speeds. Almost all dehumidifiers have a continuous and an automatic mode.
Its timer can be set in 1 hour increments up to 24 hours. More adjustable models give you the option of setting their timers in half hour increments up to 10 hours and in 1 hour increments past 10 hours up to 24 hours.
Overall Category Score
Overall, we give this unit a 3.5/5 for adjustability.
Versatility
Set Humidity Range
Target humidity on this unit can be set to as low as 30% RH and as high as 80% RH. Most competitors offer a similar range.
Operating Temperature Range
This unit’s operating temperature range is 41° F to 95° F. This is right around the industry standard.
Gravity Drainage
The gravity drain port for this unit is located on the back of the dehumidifier. You can connect a garden hose to this drain port, or you can connect an included adapter and 1.6 ft. hose.
Built-in Pump
This unit does not feature a built-in pump.
Overall Category Score
We have no complaints in this category. The H7151 scores a 5/5 for versatility.
Extra Features
Temperature Reading
This unit does not display temperature. Neither does most other dehumidifiers on the market.
Defrost
This unit does feature a defrost mode. When activated, the dehumidifier will cycle off its compressor and only run its fan to defrost its evaporator coils.
Check Filter
This unit does not have a check filter light to alert you when it’s time to clean its air filter.
Overall Category Score
This unit scores an average 3.5/5 in the category.
Ease of Use
Setup Difficulty
This unit isn’t as easy to use out of the box as most competitors. Its control panel isn’t labeled very well and the way in which different settings work isn’t very intuitive.
For example, it runs on “continuous” mode by default but this isn’t labeled anywhere on the control panel.
Pressing the “mode” button alternates between “auto” and “laundry” mode. It’s not intuitive that you have to set a target humidity level on “auto” mode or what “laundry” mode with its respective icon represents without consulting the manual.
Filter Removal Difficulty
We didn’t have any trouble removing or replacing this unit’s air filter.
Manual Clarity
This unit’s manual is easy to read and understand.
Water Tank Size
The H7151’s water tank has a capacity of 16 pints. This is an above average capacity for its size class. Most competitors have tanks with a capacity in the 12 to 14 pint range. The top rated Midea Cube is an outlier with a tank capacity of 34 pints.
Overall Category Score
Despite its unintuitive control panel, the H7151 still earns a 4.5/5 in the category, mostly because of its large water tank.
Portability
This unit weighs only 39 lb. Most competitors weigh at least 41 to 43 lb. It has good quality casters to push it around and it has side pocket handles if you need to pick it up.
It’s a very similar size to most other 50 pint dehumidifiers on the market.
This unit does have hooks on the back to wrap its power cord.
Overall Category Score
We give the H7151 a 4.5/5 for portability.
Warranty (Manufacturer’s)
This unit comes with an industry standard 1 year warranty.
Value
The H7151 usually retails for $300 but there’s almost always a coupon for $80 on its Amazon listing.
At $220, this is one of the cheapest 50 pint dehumidifiers on the market. We think it’s an excellent value relative to its performance in our tests.
